Driving Area Restrictions
Alaska Car Rental cars (compact, mid size, full size) are restricted to the greater Ketchikan area (Revillagigedo Island). Prince of Wales Travel is not allowed.
Alaska Car Rental allows our SUV fleet to leave Revillagigedo Island. Travel to Prince of Wales Island is inherit of certain risks. Renters must inform a rental agent of off-island use. A renter will be asked to read and sign a "Off Revillagigedo Island Disclaimer".
Airport Ferry Fares
The Ketchikan International Airport is located on a seperate island. Access to/from the airport is via a 5 minute ferry ride. This ferry carries both passengers and cars. Customers are responsible for all ferry fares. Current rates (2016) are $7.00 per car and $6.00 per passenger, each way. Alaska Car Rental can sell you passes (availablity not guarranteed) at time of rental, or you can pay cash at the ticket booth. To avoid the cost of transporting a vehicle on the ferry, you may consider renting at our townside location.
Late Charges
All rental cars at Alaska Car Rental are calculated by a 24 hour clock. There is a 1 HOUR GRACE period. But, if you exceed the 24 hour period by more than 1 hour, a per hour late charge will apply to each hour late (starting from the first late hour) until you reach the daily rate. When the total late fee reaches the additional day rate, you will be charged only an additional day. The late fee policy will then apply on the next day if needed. Alaska Car Rental wants you to feel comfortable with your rental. So, if there are any questions regarding overtime, please call us and we will be happy to help you.
Holding Your Reserved Vehicle
Alaska Car Rental will hold a confirmed vehicle reservation for not more than 2 hours past the scheduled pick up time. During Spring and Summer months there is usually a high demand for vehicles. We ask you to please call us at 800-662-0007 or 907-225-5000 if you are going to be late by more than 2 hours.
Rental Agreement
The rental agreement is the contract between Alaska Car Rental and the renter. It requires the renter's signature and lists rates and an estimate of charges and conditions of rental.
Primary Renter
The primary renter is the driver that is listed first on the rental agreement. This person will be responsible for the Alaska Car Rental vehicle.
Accident Report
Renters must notify Alaska Car Rental within 24-hours of any accident,and will likely be required to complete an accident report for Alaska Car Rental's record and their own. This report is for both parties protection and is particularly important if the renters have puchased a waiver of damage. Statements made may become a permanent part of the accident report. Renters must be truthful and acurate, as statements may be used in legal claims
Tax Exemptions
Employees of federal, state, and local government agencies are not subject to tax surcharges if renting for official business reasons. A tax exempt form will need to be completed at time of rental.

Cancellations made 48 hours before arrival will be charged 1 day(s) rental charge + taxes.
